Harry M. & Laverne Sewell

While ministering in Detroit, Michigan in March 1966, Founding Pastor Harry M. Sewell felt a tug in his heart to return to Dallas, Texas and form a church. As he began to seek the Lord for direction, he was prompted by the scriptures in Haggai 2:18-19, that he was to begin this church on the 4th and 20th day from the ninth month. Indeed, on September 24, 1966, Pleasant Grove Full Gospel celebrated their first service in the Grove State Bank building on Buckner Blvd. Less than 20 people attended that Sunday, five of which were Sewell family members. The church grew and a new location on Bruton Road became the home of the church family. Many years later the church moved to Mesquite, Texas, and currently is located at 790 Windbell Circle.

Pastor Sewell began preaching at the age of 22. He served as PYPA President for West Texas from 1952-1955, and has been ministering primarily in the Texas area since that time. For many years his wife Laverne Sewell ministered to children and held special services catered to their needs. For more than 20 years they have routinely visited and made many contributions towards missionary work in , South America .

Pastor & Laverne Sewell have three children; Harry Lee Sewell, Sheree Stacy, and Suzanne Sewell -Mayo. All four generations of the Sewell family and their spouses are Christians and serving in the church and/or community.
